We are still looking for the perfect location for our weekly meetings and we are open to hear your suggestions.

Eclipse Viewing Party – PLAY Trail end of year party!

Yesterday we hosted our second PLAY Trail End of Year Party with the excitement of the eclipse! We built pinhole viewers, shared some certified eclipse glasses, painted some rocks and just enjoyed each other’s company for this special day. It was so much fun listening to the kids gasps of excitement the first time they glanced at the disappearing sun. The kids and parents had a great time making new connections having some free play time while enjoying some special out of this world treats.

This year our PLAY Trail served 45 registered families, and countless others who showed up without officially registering. That means we helped at least 45 families PLAY LEARN and CREATE memories together which is up 10-15 families from last year! There’s still pleanty of time for your family to hop on the PLAY Trail before school starts so be sure to check out the map and get some ideas for fun.

We can’t wait to see everyone next year!

PLAY Trail is a free PLAY program presented by Sophie & Madigan’s Playground thanks to the generosity and support of our sponsors and donors!

SaMP Kids – Bird House Project

Today, we completed our birdhouse project for the month of June by visiting the Catoctin Creek Nature Center in Middletown. We delivered our birdhouses made from recyclable materials that the kids painted last week! They will display our bird houses as well as a note on why our kids chose the project and how they completed it and how other kids can get involved!

We took a walk on the trails to look at all of the various bird houses that the nature center has and what kinds of birds inhabit them! We also walked the sensory trail and tried to guess what birds use the biggest box and what birds use the smaller boxes! Then we saw two turtles and the kids were enthralled!

If you haven’t been there, come check out our birdhouses Catoctin Creek Nature center, walk the trails, play the instruments in the music garden, play on the playground, or play in the creek down the hill and through the trees! There’s really so much to do for all ages! SaMP Kids Club appreciates them teaming up with us for this months project. I can’t wait to see what the kids come up with in July.

Our next meeting is July 3rd 4:30pm at Common Market. SaMP Kids is a weekly service based group with the goal of teaching kids that their acts of compassion both big and small can make a big difference in their community. The kids work together to choose the project for the month and work on each step over 3-4 weeks to figure out how to make the project successful. All are welcome to come for some or all of the project. For more information you can check in on our Facebook group page

SaMP Kids ~ Bake Sale for St Jude

The kids are super excited to set up the Bake Sale for St Jude this Friday, 2/3, from 3:30-6:30 in front of The Bicycle Escape!

At this months first meeting the SaMP Kids voted on different service based projects to show the community compassion and kindness. Their final vote for the January/February project was to hold a bake sale to benefit kids with cancer. The second week the kids met they worked on creating posters and flyers to help get the word out for the bake sale. The third week of the project the kids met at Clustered Spires Bakery where the kids split up into teams and all worked on a different type of cookie. Friday we will meet up again for the Bake Sale for St Jude. (Bicycle Escape is over near Wegmans… but on the Chipotle side)

Please share with friends and family and stop by to get some cookies made with lots of LOVE! The kids are excited to be able to collect donations for St Jude. Then on February 16th tune into 99.9 as the kids present their donation directly to St Jude at the WFRE Radiothon.

SaMP Kids is a weekly service based group with the goal of teaching kids that their acts of compassion both big and small can make a big difference in their community. The kids choose the project for the month and work together on each step to figure out how to make the project successful.

We would love to see a few more older teens and tweens to help us keep the smaller kiddos excited and on track. All are welcome even if you didn’t start this months project we have a place for you! We’ve been pleasantly surprised by the overwhelming number of kids who come out to help and look forward to our group continuing to grow.
