Partner in Play – Monocacy Foundation
This morning I had the pleasure of meeting with Michael Planz, CEO of Community Living and Marybeth Leonard, Assistant Development Director, The Monocacy Foundation at the playground site. We are so proud to be supported by this wonderful organization. The Monocacy Foundation, formed in 1995, firmly believes that people with developmental disabilities have the right to a life enriched with social and recreational opportunities, preferences for where and with whom the live, and dignity in dying. The foundation has awarded $310,000 since 1995. The grants have paid for everything from adaptive equipment, music therapy, lessons, therapies and much more! #community #playlearncreate #playmatters

I can not express how happy I am to FINALLY be at this step. I’m actually having a pretty hard time believing it. Reality has definitely not set in yet.

High Schooler
This is the year she should have graduated from middle school. Off to high school. Part of me is angry that her school didn’t acknowledge her, I wanted them to remember the little girl that their peace garden is dedicated to. Part of me is so glad that the universe sent a pandemic and spared me endless pictures of graduations and celebrations of kids her age moving on to the next stage of their lives without her. Either way the overwhelming sense of missing her is there. The hurt remains. She should be joining her big sister at Frederick High this year.

This year has been full of ups and downs and a couple of crazy sideways curveballs, but we’ve made it through. Each piece of equipment has been ordered, all of the city’s requirements have been met, contractors have been hired. Now it’s just a matter of months. This summer, into early fall, the first phase of the girls playground will be opening to welcome families of all abilities. Given the current
