This month the kids picked Building Veterans as the recipient for their monthly service project. The kids created a meditation center, and brought the guys a meal this past Monday. Throughout the moth they worked together to created a menu of pot pie, salads, desserts, and some drinks. The Meditation Center was lovingly put together with a salt lamp, mini zen garden, water fountain, art supplies, and a few workbooks for survivors of PTSD. Monday we all packed up and headed to the Building Veterans house. We were greeted by a few of the men, as others came in from work, they surprised the kids with pumpkins to decorate while some of the other kids helped assemble the Meditation Center. We were honored to be apart of their family dinner celebration, they honored men who are doing hard work to stay in the program, celebrated birthdays and an engagement. The kids really enjoyed how hands on this project was, meeting the people they were helping will be sure to make this project one that sticks with them through the years.
This week we will be joined by SHIP Student Homelessness Initiative Partnership, the kids will hear a presentation and then they will decide how they want to help this month!
